We’re recruiting for a new Chair of Trustees

We’re recruiting for a new Chair of Trustees to provide leadership and support through the next exciting chapter of SHARE Oxford’s growth! Find out more and apply here.

We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees to lead our friendly board (currently three other Trustees) and work closely with Ben, our Project Coordinator as we enter our next period of growth.

This is an exciting time for our charity. Seven years old, we’re now well-established, with nearly 1000 customers using our Library of Things in the last year, and 30-50 guests for each of our Repair Cafés, fixing more than 1 tonne of stuff in the last 12 months. We’re excited to grow our impact, reducing waste and supporting wider behaviour change. We’re in discussions with funders and community partners about our next step, offering more services and supporting more people in the city, potentially opening our second site. We’re also engaging more with the national sharing and repair networks and government’s circular economy task-force.

If you’d like to find out more about our work and setup, check out our latest annual report.

The role

As chair, you will:

  • Lead the board, chair board meetings and ensure good governance of the charity
  • Work closely with Ben, our project coordinator, as he manages the team and volunteers day to day
  • Act as an ambassador for SHARE Oxford with funders, partners and the wider community
  • Help develop our strategy for growth and long-term sustainability

This role will require 2-4 days a month including quarterly board meetings, time on-site with our staff and volunteers, and outreach with community and partners. The initial term is 3 years.

Who we’re looking for

The most important things we’re looking for are energy for our mission to save waste, a love of community and collaborative leadership skills. The following experience will also help us as we grow, though is not essential for the right candidate:

  • Charity governance – experience working with Trustees and the sector will help keep our basics in good shape
  • Retail / social enterprise – as we develop our Library of Things, repair services and secondhand sales
  • Oxford community – to build excellent relationships as we co-create our services with local people
  • UK waste sector – knowledge of the public sector and commercial partners and our place as a community charity

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are keen for our board to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.

How to apply

Please send a short note about why you’re interested and what you’d bring to the role, along with a CV or LinkedIn profile to ben@shareoxford.org by Monday 7th September.

If the chair role does not suit you but you’re interested in volunteering in other ways, including potentially joining the Trustee board, we would also be pleased to hear from you.
